Intestinal cramps, flatulence, bloating (with or without a swollen abdomen), constipation/ constipation. Intestinal complaints that many people face on a daily basis. When medical examination does not reveal a clear underlying cause, irritable bowel is often referred to as irritable bowel. Synonyms for this are IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) or spastic colon.
What can an osteopath do for intestinal complaints?
Osteopathy is one of the few forms of therapy that deals with the organs. Among other things, there is extensive testing of organ motility during the examination. The organs are in constant motion under the influence of the diaphragm that moves in the service of breathing. Also, under the influence of the peristalsis of the intestines themselves: the force that propels the contents of the intestines. When the mobility of the organs or their surroundings decreases (due to influences of, for example, illness, surgery, nutrition, stress), it directly affects the supply and drainage (blood and lymph) of these organs and thus their functioning.
Treatment of the intestinal complaints by the osteopath is done with gentle manual techniques, reminiscent of an abdominal massage. Incidentally, research and treatment also include the musculoskeletal and nervous systems, since these three systems (organ system, musculoskeletal system and nervous system) are inextricably linked and, for this reason, influence each other.
